Account & data
Deleting your BBQuill account or data
You can permanently delete your entire BBQuill account, or remove specific data without closing your account. Both options are immediate and cannot be undone.
Delete your whole account
Delete your account in the app
Open BBQuill and go to Settings → Account → Delete account. Type DELETE to confirm, then tap Delete my account. This is immediate and permanent.
The same steps work in the web app at bbquill.com and in the iOS and Android apps.
If you can't sign in
Email us at groundskeeper@bbquill.com from the email address on your account and we will verify your identity and process the deletion for you. You can also reach us through our contact form.
What is deleted (immediately and permanently)
Deleting your account removes your account and all of the data tied to it, including:
- Your account and login (you will be signed out and unable to sign back in)
- Your profile and preferences
- Every cook, including its items, probes, step plans, and target serve times
- Everything logged on those cooks — the event timeline (wraps, spritzes, fuel adds, flips, sauces, temperature readings and notes) and every grate reading
- All cookers, active and paused, and the equipment recorded against them
- Your pantry — rubs, woods, sauces, injections, brines and fuel
- Your saved cook plans and their steps, and any reminders you have set
- Your Pitmaster chats and the messages in them
- Every uploaded file — your cook photos and any images sent to the Pitmaster
Paused cookers are included: pausing is a plan limit, not a deletion, so a paused cooker and everything logged on it are removed with the rest.
Uploaded files are the one exception to "immediately": the record of each file disappears with the rest of your account right away, and the stored file itself is queued for permanent removal right behind it — the same asynchronous cleanup used whenever a photo, a cook, or an account is deleted.
Delete specific data without closing your account
You can remove individual records yourself, anytime, without deleting your account:
- A cook: open the cook → Danger zone → Delete this cook. That removes the cook and everything logged on it — items, probes, steps, the timeline, grate readings and its photos.
- One timeline entry or grate reading: open the cook → find the row → Delete.
- A photo: open the cook → the photo strip → Remove this photo.
- A cooker or a piece of equipment: open the cooker → Delete. Cooks logged on it stay in your ledger; they simply stop naming a cooker.
- A pantry item or a cook plan: open the record → Delete.
Photos are stored separately from your records, but you don't have to clean them up separately: deleting a photo, the cook it belongs to, or your whole account all queue the stored image for permanent removal.
These deletions are immediate and permanent. If you'd rather we delete specific data for you, email groundskeeper@bbquill.com from your account address and tell us what to remove.
What's kept: records you don't delete remain until you delete them or close your account. The billing and analytics retention described below also applies.
What is kept, and for how long
When you delete your account we remove your personal data from our systems immediately. Backups and a small number of records are retained only as described below:
- Encrypted backups: Residual copies in routine, encrypted system backups are purged on our normal backup-rotation schedule, no later than 90 days after deletion.
- Billing & subscription records: If you ever purchased a subscription, your payment processor (Apple App Store, Google Play, or our web payment processor) retains transaction records as required for tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes. We do not store full payment card numbers.
- Analytics: When you delete your account, we also ask our analytics provider to delete your product-analytics profile on a best-effort basis. Aggregate, de-identified metrics that aren't linked to you may remain. To request or confirm analytics deletion, email groundskeeper@bbquill.com.
- Support communications: If you've contacted us, the related support tickets and messages held by our support tool are retained for our records and are not removed by account deletion. Email groundskeeper@bbquill.com to request their deletion.
- Legal holds: We may retain limited information where required to comply with a legal obligation or to resolve a dispute.
For full details, see our Privacy Policy, which describes our data-retention practices and your privacy rights.
